President-elect Lai Ching-te attended the “2024 Touch Taiwan Smart Display Exhibition” today (24th). Lai Ching-te emphasized that based on today’s results, the display industry and the semiconductor industry support Taiwan’s economic development. The government does not pay special attention to that industry. “Each industry We all take it seriously, and this is the government’s position.”

Lai Qingde also specially introduced Liu Jingqing, the chairman of the National Development Council, who was also present. He said that Liu Jingqing came to listen to the voices of the industry before he took office, including which direction should the display industry develop in the future? How do you hope the government can help? The new government will listen, work with everyone, and come up with good plans to make the industry more advanced.

“2024 Touch Taiwan” this year gathered 312 indicator manufacturers from 10 countries, using 882 booths, with “Lead to Infinity leading an infinite future” as the main axis. Lai Qingde said that he heard Ko Furen, chairman of the Taiwan Display Industry Federation and CEO of AUO, mention that smart display is the last mile of future life, regardless of whether AI is included now. When he was the executive president in 2018, he had the opportunity to have a discussion at AUO’s Taichung campus. After returning to the Political Yuan, he promoted Taiwan’s smart display technology application action project, which cost 11.7 billion yuan in five years and covered 216 patents.

Lai Qingde said that now we have seen very fruitful results. In 2023, the shipment volume will be the second in the world, and the output value will also be the second highest in the world, reaching 1.12 trillion yuan. He also affirmed that Taiwan has the first Micro LED production line and its future development is promising.

He also mentioned that in 2018, AUO Chairman and then Chairman Peng Shuanglang told him that “we need to dodge” OLED panel technology and focus on Micro LED technology. This is Taiwan taking the lead. The government should support moving in this direction, and I am very happy to see such results now. After his speech, Lai Qingde also visited 12 booths one by one including AUO, Innolux, and the Ministry of Economic Affairs.
