Vehicles equipped with ADAS (Advanced Driving Assistance System) are becoming increasingly popular. However, while over-reliance on the assistance system, there are also constant reports of collisions with slow-motion vehicles on national highways. The National Transportation Safety Investigation Board has launched its first investigation into an electric vehicle-related accident and will complete its final investigation report in May next year.

The Transportation Committee of the Legislative Yuan today invited Chairman Lin Xinde of the Transportation Safety Committee to attend and report on the business overview and prepare for questions.

Chairman of the Transportation Safety Committee Lin Xinde pointed out in an interview that on November 30 last year, a passenger car was involved in an accident involving a collision with a construction buffer vehicle on the National 1 to North Daya Road, causing damage to the collision buffer facilities in front of the private passenger car and the construction buffer vehicle. The National Transportation Safety Board has launched an investigation in accordance with the law and released a preliminary report in December last year. It is scheduled to release a factual information report in July this year and complete the final investigation report in May next year.

Due to the frequent accidents of electric vehicles equipped with ADAS, this case is also the first time that the Sports Safety Council has launched an accident investigation related to electric vehicles. Lin Xinde pointed out that there are 4 other similar cases of collisions of slow-impact vehicles and they are also collecting information. If the causes of the accidents are similar, A systematic analysis will be done later.

DPP Legislator Chen Suyue questioned and pointed out that according to the statistics of the High Public Security Bureau from 2021 to the end of 2023, the number of collision accidents of national highway construction vehicles has climbed to 321, of which 85 vehicles have ADAS, accounting for 26.48% of all national highway construction vehicle collision accidents. Both the total number of accidents and the number of ADAS turned on at the time of the accident are increasing year by year.

Lin Xinde said that the accident investigation will be divided into three groups: vehicle, operation, and road. If it is a road problem, suggestions will be given to the Ministry of Transportation. However, the driving recorder in the electric vehicle will automatically upload to the cloud, etc., because these parts are more complicated. , will ask car dealers to explain why the design can cause problems such as driver negligence and inaccurate vehicle detection.
