(Central News Agency reporter Wang Baoer, Taipei, 26th) The Wu Yongfu Award organized by the Wu Yongfu Cultural Foundation will be awarded tomorrow. In addition to the 2023 winners, the awards from 2020 to 2022 will be delayed due to the COVID-19 (coronavirus disease 2019) epidemic. Annual awards will also be presented at the same time.

According to the press release issued by the Wu Yongfu Cultural Foundation, the winner of the 2023 Wu Yongfu Award, the Literary Critic Award was awarded by Wu Peizhen for “The Encounter of Formosa and Fusang: Taiwan-Japan Literature and Drama Evolution during the Japanese Occupation”, and the Cultural Critic Award Zhuang Wanshou won the “Taiwan Spirit: The Root of Taiwan’s Life” and Qiu Zuyin won the literary award with “Empty Smile Dream”.

The winners in 2022, the Literary Critic Award was won by Chen Huiling for “Interpretation of the Native Country: Types and Aesthetics of Local Literature”, and the Cultural Critic Award by Lu Shixiang for “We Taiwanese: A Discussion on Taiwan’s National Character”.

The 2021 winners, the Literary Critic Award was won by Okazaki Ikuko and Lin Xueting for “The Cultural Trajectory of Huang Lingzhi: A Taiwanese Writer Writing in Japanese after the War”, and the Cultural Critic Award was awarded by Cai Rongfang for “From Religion to Politics: Pastor Huang Changhui Universal The Practice of Theology” and the literature award went to Yang Shuangzi for “Taiwan Wanderlust”.

The 2020 winners, the Literary Critic Award was won by Wei Yijun for “Exploration of the Formation of Taiwan’s Aboriginal Literature after the War”, and the Cultural Critic Award was won by Cai Kunlin’s dictation and written by Cai Xiuju for “We Can Only Sing: Cai Kunlin’s Life Story”, The Literary Award went to Zheng Jiongming for “Existence and Gaze: Selected Poems of Zheng Jiongming”.

The press release pointed out that for the three major awards of the Wu Yongfu Cultural Foundation, each award-winning work must be a separate book published within 3 years, and have specific contributions to Taiwan’s cultural criticism, literary criticism, and literary creation. Another feature of the Wu Yongfu Award is that instead of adopting public opinion, the parties concerned apply for the award. Instead, the foundation invites professional and impartial people to select the award, and the author is notified after the award is won.

The press release pointed out that the Wu Yongfu Award was founded by Wu Yongfu, a senior Taiwanese writer. Wu Yongfu is a native of Puli, Nantou. He graduated from the Department of Literature and Art of Meiji University in Japan. A reporter who has participated in, founded, and hosted Taiwanese literary publications and organizations for many years. After the war, he stopped writing for more than 20 years due to the conversion of Japanese to Chinese and encountering cross-language barriers.
