However, viewers who had purchased tickets received a refund notice, saying that the screening was canceled because “the copy was damaged beyond repair.” People questioned whether there were other reasons for canceling the screening.

On mainland social platforms, many netizens also posted news that “May I Live Longer” has been cancelled. Some netizens who bought tickets received refund notices on the 19th. For example, a notice from the Chinese film information platform “Maoyan Movies” stated that the screening of the film “May You Live Longer” at the Long Cinema (Ciyun Temple Branch) theater was canceled because the copy was damaged beyond repair.

Many netizens speculated that there were other reasons for the cancellation of the movie. Some people thought it was related to the drug abuse plot in the movie. Chinese film director Ying Liang shared the news on his personal social account and speculated that the cancellation of the screening may be related to the plot of land struggle in the film.

The film tells the story of two new immigrants from Hunan, Lin Ziyuan and her sister Lin Zique, who grew up in Hong Kong. They have a drug-addicted father (played by Taiwanese actor Wu Kangren). The two daughters thought they could completely break away from their father when they grow up, but they found that they like Everything about him turns out to have the shadow of his father, and is related to a certain memory from his childhood. The film was shortlisted for four nominations at the Academy Awards, and Hong Kong actress Tse Wing-yan, who plays Lam Zi-yuan, won the “Best New Actor” award. Wu Kangren even won the Best Actor Award from the Hong Kong Film Critics Society in January this year.

The 14th Beijing International Film Festival was held from April 18 to 26. It was co-sponsored by the Central Radio and Television Station of the Communist Party of China and the Beijing Municipal Government. “May People Live Forever” was shortlisted for the “Focus on the Future” section.
