China News Service, Hong Kong, April 25 (Xinhua) The Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong SAR Government announced on the 25th that Hong Kong’s overall export and import values ​​in March both recorded year-on-year increases, up 4.7% and 5.3% respectively, which exceeded expectations.

According to reports, after exports fell by 0.8% in February, the overall export value of goods in March was HK$384.5 billion, a year-on-year increase of 4.7%, higher than market expectations of a 2.3% increase. At the same time, following a 1.8% drop in imports in February, the value of merchandise imports in March was 429.5 billion yuan, a year-on-year increase of 5.3%, which was higher than expected and rose 2.4%. A tangible trade deficit of HK$45 billion was recorded in March, equivalent to 10.5% of the value of merchandise imports.

The overall value of exports to Asia in March increased by 8.1% year-on-year. The overall value of exports to most major destinations in other regions recorded a decrease, in particular the United Kingdom fell by 31.5%, Germany fell by 15.5%, and the United States fell by 5.4%.

In the first quarter of this year, the overall value of merchandise exports increased by 11.9% year-on-year, and the value of merchandise imports increased by 8%, recording a tangible trade deficit of HK$83.6 billion, equivalent to 7.3% of the value of merchandise imports. (over)
