China News Service, Hong Kong, April 24 (Xinhua) The Secretary for Labor and Welfare of the Hong Kong SAR Government, Sun Yuk-han, said on the 24th that since the launch of a series of talent recruitment measures at the end of 2022 to the end of March this year, more than 110,000 talents have taken their dependents into business. Various talent entry schemes have arrived in Hong Kong.

On the same day, the Hong Kong Legislative Council held a meeting, and some members were concerned about whether Hong Kong’s labor supply was sufficient.

Sun Yuhan’s written reply stated that from the end of 2022 to the end of last year, the net immigration of Hong Kong residents was 51,700, showing signs of reversing the population decline that began in 2020. Most of the immigrants are of working age. Excluding foreign domestic helpers, the local labor force rebounded from a low of 3.43 million in 2022 to 3.48 million in the fourth quarter of last year.

Sun Yuhan said that it is expected that the local labor force will continue to be tight in the future, and the government will continue to attract foreign talents to fill the vacancies in the local market. The Labor Welfare Bureau will review the Highly Talented Scheme and other optimized talent entry arrangements in the middle of this year to ensure that relevant measures are competitive and effectively respond to Hong Kong’s manpower needs.
