After the Hong Kong Sharing Foundation visited Honduras, a Central American country, in March this year to inspect the local dengue fever situation, witnessed by Leung Chun-ying, Chairman of the Foundation and Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference, and Yu Bo, the Chinese Ambassador to Honduras, Professor Chen Yingning, Director General of the Foundation, and the Minister of Health of Honduras Karla Paredes Reyes signed a letter of intent for cooperation online the day before yesterday (20th) to further strengthen the cooperative relationship between the two parties. Volunteers will be sent to Hong Kong as soon as June to launch a dengue fever prevention and control project.

Leung Chun-ying said, “Although Honduras and China are far apart, it does not hinder people-to-people and cultural exchanges between the two countries. The Sharing Foundation’s medical assistance project provides a platform for people from the mainland and Hong Kong to participate, and implements related work of people-to-people connectivity on the ground. The Sharing Foundation and Honduras Health The Ministry signed a letter of intent for cooperation, making the foundation the first Chinese non-governmental organization to work in Hong Kong, writing a new chapter in Hong Kong’s people-to-people diplomacy.”

Professor Chen Yingning said, “According to the letter of intent, the Sharing Foundation will donate 5 types of equipment to the Ministry of Health of Honduras in the next three months and send a team to Honduras to start the project, combined with timely diagnosis of patients, protection of other people and the publicity and education of the whole society, control Nationwide risk of dengue and other vector-borne disease outbreaks in Honduras.

In mid-March, Leung Chun-ying and the foundation team visited the capital of Honduras, Tegucigalpa, the southern city of San Lorenzo, the northern city of San Pedro Sula, the central city of Santa Barbara, and the western city of Santa Rosa de Copán. After conducting field visits to different local medical institutions and investigating the local dengue fever situation, we actively prepared projects to control local dengue fever risks. The Sharing Foundation team also attended the reception for the first anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between China and Hong Kong last month. Leung Chun-ying mentioned at the time that due to the impact of climate change in recent years, dengue fever has spread rapidly, seriously threatening people’s lives and health. In order to promote the friendship between the two peoples, the Sharing Foundation is willing to carry out dengue fever prevention and control work in Honduras as soon as possible, combined with timely diagnosis of patients, protection of other people and publicity and education of the whole society, to control dengue fever and other insect-borne diseases nationwide in Honduras risk of outbreak.

The Sharing Foundation has currently implemented cataract elimination and dengue fever prevention and control projects in 3 Asian countries, 3 African countries and one Latin American country, and was certified in Beijing last year as a pragmatic achievement of “Belt and Road Initiative” and “People-to-People Connectivity”.
