China News Service, Hong Kong, April 22 (Xinhua) Hong Kong is actively promoting electric vehicles. Secretary for the Environment and Ecology Bureau of the SAR Government, Tse Chin-wan, said on the 22nd that about 75% of newly registered private cars in Hong Kong in the first two months of this year were electric vehicles.

On the same day, Tse Chin-wan said at a meeting of the Legislative Council Environmental Affairs Committee that the development of electric vehicles requires the support of sufficient charging infrastructure. It is expected that about 100 or more chargers will be provided in existing gas stations in the 2024-25 fiscal year.
As of December last year, there were more than 7,000 public charging facilities in Hong Kong, located in government parking lots and private parking lots. The SAR government hopes to increase the total number of public and private charging parking spaces in Hong Kong to approximately 200,000 by mid-2027.
The government will adjust the land lease terms of gas stations to provide incentives to promote the installation of electric vehicle charging facilities and long-term transformation into green fuel supply stations. The measures will help speed up the establishment of a territory-wide fast charging network, especially to provide charging services for electric commercial vehicles. (over)
