Zeng Yi taught music for three years, targeting the elderly with dementia and children from poor families. Jamie shared: “When I use Zoom to teach during Covid, I can see their progress every week. After teaching for nearly a year, my parents-in-law with dementia will remember my name.” There are also things that need to be paid attention to in volunteer teaching. She said: “Some questions cannot be asked. Some elderly people’s children will not go to visit, and some have lost their closest relatives during the war. Saying the wrong thing may make them unhappy, and it may even make them very emotional. ” Jamie was teaching three to four classes a week, with ten mothers-in-law in each class. The youngest “student” was over sixty, and one mother-in-law was 103 years old. In order to remember each “student”, she will make a unique Profile for each father-in-law and mother-in-law. “I will write down their name, age, hearing level, personal preferences, etc., so that I can remember them conveniently.”

Jamie believes that music is a connection, “activating the brains of the elderly and improving their memory.
